Origin of Lawn Furniture
Did you ever wonder where lawn furniture originated? In the 1800s as people began to enjoy their gardens and patios, furniture was set outside, but had to be brought in during inclement weather. The answer of course, would be furniture made for the outdoors.
Did you ever wonder where lawn furniture originated? In the 1800s as people began to enjoy their gardens and patios, furniture was set outside, but had to be brought in during inclement weather. The answer of course, would be furniture made for the outdoors.
And thats what Thomas Lee came up with in 1903, while vacationing with his family in 1903, at Westport, New York. He wanted something comfortable, and suited to the sloping grounds of his cottage. So he went to work with a saw, and a single plank of wood, cutting out only eleven pieces that he assembled into what is now known as the Adirondack chair.
This basic, flat slat chair, usually with a fan shaped back, also tilted slightly in its positioning, to make it suitable to the uneven ground where Lees family spent the summer.
Intrigued by the outcome, and needing a source of winter income, his friend Harry Bunnell patented the chair, and began turning them out in his workshop during the cold months, to sell to the summer population. His creations were all made of hemlock, then painted in dark greens or browns, and signed.
The hallmark of the Adirondack chair, is its wide, flat armrests, supremely comfortable in the many forms of outdoor furniture that are now included as part of the Adirondack style. With the solid wood construction, and adequate coating to protect it against the rain and sun, these bits of Americana will last for years.
Today, the chairs come in a wide variety of colors, and have expanded into love seats, gliders, and other forms of outdoor furniture that are still clearly recognizable by their slat construction, and the standard armrests.
You can choose chairs by color to suit the predominant color in a garden. For example, if youre growing herbs, many of which flower in blues and purples, there are violet Adirondack chairs. Perhaps youd rather have the chairs to match your house trim, in which case there are red, yellow, indigo, and orange models. And of course, you can still get the original green chair.
Artist Joel Sisson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, wanted to make a big thing of Adirondack chairs, and built a gargantuan example and placed it on his front lawn in 1996. The chair was stolen, so he built another. It too, was stolen. To make sure the Adirondack chair didnt disappear into the night forever, Sisson then built 90 of the chairs, and enlisted the help of local high school students to paint them a sea foam green. The chairs were distributed in pairs, to neighbors along a city block, and displayed on their lawns.
In celebration of their successful vanquishing of the chair thieves, Sisson took ten of his students, two giant chairs, and 50 regular sized ones, and hauled them to the National Mall in Georgetown, where the slats were assembled, painted, and put on display. The single giant chair remains there today.

Customer Review: Pretty and sturdy
I have had this crib for nearly a year. It has been through one move with no problems and I haven't had a problem with joints loosening or anything else. It is also light enough that I can easily move it. The two flaws with this crib are that it scratches VERY easily and that the sides come down very low so there is really no way to store anything under the bed. But overall I am quite happy with this crib. Recommended.
Customer Review: Beautiful and easy set up!
My husband and I decided to put this crib together last night. It took all of maybe an hour. The instructions seemed vague at first, but once you actually start putting things together it became very easy.
Advice I would give a new buyer: Assemble the crib IN the nursery! Some may think this is obvious, but my husband wanted to do it in front of the television in the living room (thinking it would take hours). We had to take the back part off and flip up the mattress support to get it into the baby's room. Though it was VERY easy to do, it would have been easier to just set up in the room.
Once set up, the crib is absolutely beautiful! The color actually looks like the pictures online. The crib is extremely sturdy and the Da Vinci mattress we registered for fits perfectly snug. The wood does however scratch pretty easily, so take it slow and careful... and keep furniture polish and wood markers handy for after set up.
All in all, I'm overly satisfied with this crib!

The adorable baby doll has rooted blond hair and her eyes open and close. She is dressed in a pink footed jumper with a matching soft hat. Other accessories include a baby blanket, her feeding bottle, a teddy bear, and a diaper. Four AA batteries are required, but not included.
Customer Review: We Love Her!
This doll is so sweet!! I think the specified age is 3+, but I got her for our 2 year old and was worried about her arms, which seem somewhat delicate, but after many months, she's still holding up. She says and does the sweetest things and I've been recommending her to everyone. I am a doll lover and have not found a cuter, interactive doll.
Customer Review: LOOKS TOTALLY AWESOME!!!
I am getting this doll in three days... and i am totally exited!!! I am eleven years old... and i am so exited! if you have a 8 to 12 year old, and you are thinking about getting this doll, but you think she might be to old? well... i am eleven, and i cannot stop looking at pictures of her online!! my mother says it is smart to not think i am to old to play with dolls. she thinks it is stupid to think i am to old, when i am eleven! i even can't stop thinking about her!!! and i am not kidding!

Customer Review: Practical
I read reviews about the drawer sticking a little - boo hoo. Thats the only reason I give it a 4. This problem is really easily resolved by just propping your thumb against the caddy while pulling the drawer open with one finger (if you're doing it one handed). Not a big deal.
I really love this product. I saw the diaper tool box at toys r us and just was not satisfied with it, it is not aesthetically pleasing. When I saw this product it looked like something practical. We could definitely use this product in our home for light storage. It isnt screaming baby.
It's VERY sturdy, and VERY well built. Holds plenty of diapers if you stack them vertically, and the drawer (one wide open space, no compartments) has plenty of room for your diaper creams and such.
This is in no way an exchange for a changing table.
As a mother with a newborn, my best example for use of this product is when my daughter is in bed with me at night. Since I'm breastfeeding, waking up to go feed her is really demanding. I just leave this caddy near the bed and voila, don't even have to leave my room. I can easily carry her and it to the living room when we wake, or anywhere else I go in the house.
Two thumbs up, buy it - you wont regret it.
Customer Review: One of my favorite baby purchases
Once my daughter outgrew the diaper table on her Pack n' Play, I was basically using a cardboard box in the floor, full of diapers, wipes, a thermometer, and a changing pad.
I decided to give this a shot, and I love it! My daughter is very large for her age, at 10 months, and the changing pad that comes with this is bigger than her! Everything is designed perfectly, and efficiently. The drawer holds all her teething meds, thermometer, nose syringe, nasal drops, diaper ointment, nail clips, etc. I never misplace them now. The diaper slot holds 3 days worth of diapers, and the wipes compartment holds a wipes container perfectly. It's so organized, it makes me feel organized.
I hold this up there with the Boppy, Avent bottles, and sleep sacks - all things I am such a happier mommy to have.
